NC Hurricane Relief - Manna Foodbank & First UMC

A Better World community

Updated: Oct 16, 2024

Hurricane Helene was the third-deadliest storm to hit the U.S. in the 21st century. It brought destruction across six southeastern states. Particularly hard hit was Western North Carolina. But individuals, organizations and communities throughout the region have responded like never before to relieve the suffering of those in need.

Our guests today represent two of the countless organizations that have rallied to make a positive difference in the wake of the hurricane. Micah Chrisman is from MANNA FoodBank whose warehouses and offices were destroyed by flood waters. Yet, it wasn't long before they were back at work helping to feed people and stop food insecurity.

Rev. Keith Turman is Senior Pastor at the First United Methodist Church. His church has become a hub for disaster relief in Waynesville, utilizing volunteers and donations from near and far to meet the needs of the community.
